QUENTIN SMITH

THE 30-YEAR OLD MAN ACCUSED OF FATALLY SHOOTING TWO WESTERVILLE POLICE OFFICERS ON SATURDAY IS STILL HOSPITALIZED WITH INJURIES STEMMING FROM THE EXCHANGE OF GUNFIRE. PROSECUTORS SAY HE COULD GET THE DEATH PENALTY IF CONVICTED OF AGGRAVATED MURDER.  IN HER DESPERATE 9-1-1 CALL, QUENTIN SMITH'S WIFE ALLEGES IT WAS HER HUSBAND WHO SHOT WESTERVILLE OFFICERS ERIC JOERING AND ANTHONY MORELLI... BUT SMITH SHOULD NOT HAVE OWNED A GUN. SMITH "WAS CONVICTED OF BURGLARY WITH A FIREARM IN CUYAHOGA COUNTY IN 2008 AND WAS SENTENCED TO 3 YEARS IN PRISON FOR THAT CRIME. THAT CONVICTION BARS SMITH FROM LAWFULLY POSSESSING A FIREARM."
FEDERAL PROSECUTORS HAVE NOW CHARGED SMITH'S FRIEND - GERALD A. LAWSON III - WITH PURCHASING A GLOCK THAT THEY SAY WAS USED IN THE OFFICERS' MURDERS. GERALD LAWSON WAS ARRESTED YESTERDAY IN CLEVELAND.
