Landspout Tornado touches down in Mercer County Saturday Night


The National Weather Service has confirmed that a "Landspout Tornado" touched down Saturday Night in Mercer County just outside of Rockford. The National Weather Service has rated the storm as an EF-U for unknown since the storm did not cause damage. A tornado must hit a speed of 65 miles an hour to be rated as an EF-0. According to Spectrum News meteorologist Eric Elwell, A landspout tornado is an area of rotation starting at the ground and the rotation gets stretched toward the cloud typically near a front, weaker winds near the ground and a strong updraft. The state of Ohio has now had 36 confirmed tornadoes for the year.
