BREAKING GROUND FOR A BETTER FUTURE AT THE GRAND LAKE HEALTH/PREMIER HEALTH SOUTH YMCA

Minster, OH – 07/05/2024 – A groundbreaking ceremony will take place on July 22nd at 8:30 a.m. for the $3.6 million expansion project at the Grand Lake Health/Premier Health YMCA.

Once completed, the sports complex will provide a second full-sized gym, an additional basketball court, 2 volleyball courts, and 3 pickleball courts. The gymnasium will have multipurpose surfacing to better accommodate indoor basketball, soccer, and other sports. In addition to the sports complex, a new, state-of-the-art fitness center will be constructed to better serve members of the community.

The project is currently 94% funded, and we are looking to bridge the gap as construction gets underway,” says Grand Lake Health/Premier Health South Executive Director, Brittany Thiebeau. “Without the outstanding support of our members, our partners, and the communities we serve, this project wouldn’t have been possible.”

An initial $750,000 grant from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources helped launch the project. In addition to the grant, the Grand Lake Health/Premier Health South YMCA expansion project was aided by Representative Angie King, who helped secure $225,000 from the One-Time Stategic Community Investment Fund, and the Auglaize County Commisioners.

Key sponsors for this project, who have donated over $100,000, include Precision Strip Inc., the New Bremen Foundation, and Crown Equipment Corporation, with Crown being the sole $1,000,000 donor.

Thiebeau is encouraged by the swift progress on this project, saying, “Once the expansion is complete, we believe the Grand Lake Health/Premier Health YMCA will be the go-to destination for health and wellness in the area. From workout classes and pickleball to youth sports and community programming, our YMCA will be equipped to go above and beyond to bring our mission to those who need it the most.”

The expansion is estimated to be completed by Winter 2025.
