         Mercer County Sheriff Jeff Grey reports that deputies are investigating a fatal traffic crash that occurred this morning, September 7th.  Mercer County Central Dispatch received a 9-1-1 call at 10:40 AM of a crash at the intersection of St Rte 49 and St Rte 707 in Blackcreek Township.

The investigation revealed that Kenneth A Edwards (44) of Decatur, IN was driving a 2016 black Chevy SUV, traveling eastbound on St Rte 707.   Christopher D Mckenzie (61) of Jeaneretta, LA was driving a 2023 white Kenworth semi-tractor and trailer, traveling southbound on St Rte 49.  Edwards ran the stop sign at the intersection of St Rte 707 and St Rte 49, striking Mckenzie’s semi-trailer on the passenger side.  Mr. Edwards was pronounced deceased on the scene.

Assisting at the scene were members of the Chatt Fire Department, Rockford Fire Department, Rockford EMS, Celina EMS and MCERV.

The Mercer County Sheriff’s Office Crash Reconstruction Team was called to the scene.  This crash remains under investigation at this time and will be forwarded to the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office for review.
