Minster Board of Education Overview- September 16, 2024
The Minster Board of Education met for their monthly meeting Monday evening.
Donations
The Board accepted the following donations:
$125 from 4th grade parents for negative lunch accounts.
$500 from Minster Journeyman’s Club and Minster Civic Association for High School PBIS.
$2500 from Minster Service Club for free admission to athletic events for students.
$97.44 from an anonymous donor for negative lunch accounts.
Homemade tongue drum and cajon drum from an anonymous donor for the music department.
Board Recognition of Students
Minster High School students Ruth Ann Carity, daughter of Brent and Marie Carity, and Sophia Bensman, daughter of Tim and Katie Bensman, attended the State FFA Camp this summer and shared their experiences with the Board.
Superintendent’s Report
Superintendent Josh Meyer updated the Board on the recently released State Report Card. Overall Minster achieved a 5 Star rating, while earning 24 out of a possible 25 stars.

K-6 Principal’s Report
Elementary Principal Mrs. Mandy Albers provided the elementary report. She shared details of the “Minster Milestones” program at the elementary school, a reward program designed to support local families and businesses. Mrs. Albers told the Board that 502 out of 505 elementary students and parents attended Back to School Night in August.

7-12 Principal’s Report
7-12 Principal Mr. Austin Kaylor shared the Jr/Sr High School update with the Board. He provided the Board with a list of class officers and student council members. Mr. Kaylor shared with the Board the Homecoming Court for this year. He also informed the Board that 94% of our 7-12 students are involved in either an athletic team or participate in band.

Curriculum and Instruction
District 4th grade teachers Tracy Halpin and Katie Eilerman presented the “40 Book Challenge” program to the Board. The “40 Book Challenge” is inspired by the book, The Book Whisperer, by Donalyn Miller. The 4th grade teachers focused on building a community of readers and instilling a love of reading amongst the students. Overall, 86% of students met or exceeded this challenge and many positive outcomes were observed and acknowledged by students, staff, and parents.
Treasurer’s Report
Treasurer Gina Selby provided the Board with her monthly report. Mrs. Selby gave the Board a budget performance update, requested a temporary transfer from the general fund to the rec fund for the Melcher St. playground project, modified appropriations in capital outlay and recreation funds and requested that the Board return temporary advances from the Title VIB fund, the Title I fund and the Title II A fund back to the general fund.

Superintendent’s Consent Agenda
During the Superintendent’s Consent portion of the agenda the Minster Board approved an early graduation request, approved snow removal contract with Ruhenkamp Boring and Trenching, approved the FFA request to attend the National and State conventions and approved ala carte pricing in the cafeterias.
New Business
In New Business, the Minster Board of Education approved the following items:
MOU with the Allen County Board of Developmental Disabilities for behavioral support and consultation.
Personnel Recommendations
The Board approved the following Personnel Recommendations:
Limited 11 month contract to Theresa Thien- Assistant Treasurer/EMIS
Limited 1 year contract to Josh Clune- Bus Route Driver
Limited 1 year contract to Jackie Clark- Substitute Cook’s Helper

The Minster Board of Education set their next monthly meeting for Tuesday, October 15 at 7 PM in the Large Group Meeting Room.
Executive Session
The Board of Education entered into Executive Session to discuss the employment and compensation of a public employee and the purchase or sale of property. There was no action taken after the executive session.
