Man Dies After Crashing Motorcycle On I-75 In Sidney

MAN DIES AFTER CRASHING MOTORCYCLE ON I-75 IN SIDNEY
By Tony Heitmeyer

SIDNEY, Ohio - A crash involving a motorcycle and a pickup truck claimed the life of a Kentucky man Friday afternoon. The accident happened just before 3:45 in the northbound lanes of Interstate 75 at milepost 90, just south of Fair Road in Sidney.

According to Sergeant Brent Johnson of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, traffic was slowing in the area due to a vehicle that was merging back onto the highway from the right shoulder. The driver of a red Ford F-150, identified as 67-year-old Daniel Cross, of Huber Heights, slowed down in the left lane due to the slowing traffic when his vehicle was struck from behind by a blue Harley Davidson motorcycle, operated by 38-year-old Joshua Braden, of Hodgenville, Kentucky. The bike then went off the left side of the highway into the median, struck a road construction sign, and overturned.

Braden was transported to Wilson Health by Sidney paramedics, where he was pronounced dead. Troopers said he was not wearing a helmet. The victim was traveling with other family members; one on a separate motorcycle, and another following behind in a vehicle. There were no other injuries in the crash.

Investigators have not located the vehicle that was merging onto the highway; however, they would like to talk to that driver. They are asking that any motorists or truck drivers with dashcam footage, or who may have witnessed that vehicle — described only as a white car or SUV — contact the OSP Piqua Post at 937-773-1131.

Traffic on the interstate was backed up for about two hours in both directions, with one northbound lane closed while the accident was cleaned up and troopers took measurements. Sidney Fire and EMS crews, along with officers from the Sidney Police Department, assisted at the scene. The crash remains under investigation.
