Marion Local Board of Education Holds December Meeting, Approves Coaching Changes and Policy Updates

Marion Local — The Marion Local Board of Education met this week to discuss several personnel and policy updates, along with reports from school administrators.

Superintendent Mike Pohlman announced the board approved the resignation of Catherine Dirksen as head volleyball coach, and the hiring of Nick Tangeman as co-head track coach. Larry Post was also approved as the district’s van driver.

The board approved membership with the Ohio School Boards Association and named Randy Bruns as president pro tem for the organizational meeting in January. The organizational meeting is scheduled for January 12th at 7 p.m., followed by the regular monthly meeting. Additionally, the board approved the second and final reading of all policies recommended by NEOLA.

Technology coordinator Michelle Mescher updated the board on her work with Dan Canning on the track timing system and the transition to a new athletic website. High school principal Tim Goodwin reported on the success of Career Day and student community service projects completed before Thanksgiving break. Elementary principal Kelly Tobey shared third-grade fall ELA scores and reminded families about the upcoming kindergarten intent form for next school year.

Treasurer Ryan Goldschmidt provided an update on the annual audit, noting auditors are currently on site. Superintendent Pohlman also reminded the board of the senior citizens luncheon scheduled for Friday and shared a brief update on ongoing facility projects.
