Two Overnight Structure Fires in Celina Leave Significant Damage, No Injuries

Two separate structure fires kept Celina firefighters busy late Monday night and early Tuesday morning, according to Celina Fire Chief Brian Davis.

The first fire was reported around 8:50 p.m. at the Windermere Bay Condos, located at 1700 East Market Street. Chief Davis said firefighters were dispatched after a resident in a second-floor unit heard smoke detectors sounding and noticed smoke coming from a lower-level condo.

When crews arrived, they found a kitchen fire that caused heavy damage to the kitchen area and smoke damage throughout the structure. The resident of the affected unit was not home at the time of the fire. The Ohio State Fire Marshal’s Office is expected to be in Celina to investigate the cause.

Later in the evening, at approximately 11:35 p.m., firefighters were called to a second structure fire at 7568 Riley Road. Chief Davis said the homeowner had added extra wood to a wood-burning heater before going to bed. The resident later heard a noise coming from the living room and discovered the ceiling on fire, along with heavy smoke coming from the wood burner’s vent pipe.

That fire caused significant damage to the roof and ceiling inside the home.

No injuries were reported in either incident. Investigators will be working to determine the exact causes of both fires.
