Mercer County grand jury indicts inmate on two assault charges tied to detention center incident

A Mercer County grand jury has indicted Steven Snider in connection with an alleged assault at the Mercer County Detention Center.

According to the indictment filed in Mercer County Common Pleas Court, Snider is charged in Case No. 26 CRM 005 with two counts of assault, both fifth degree felonies.

The indictment alleges the offenses occurred on or about January 2, 2026, and that Snider knowingly caused or attempted to cause physical harm to two separate victims, listed as Victim 1 and Victim 2.

Court records state the alleged assaults occurred in or on the grounds of a local correctional facility and that the victims were employees, visitors, or otherwise on the premises for business purposes. The indictment also states the alleged offenses were committed while Snider was under custody at the facility.

The indictment was returned as a true bill during the first term of January 15, 2026, and was signed by Mercer County Prosecuting Attorney Erin M. Minor. Snider is listed as being held at the Mercer County Detention Center.
