U Haul truck crashes after chase on I 75 in Auglaize County, one taken into custody
A U Haul truck involved in a police chase on Interstate 75 and U.S. Route 33 crashed Tuesday afternoon between Wapakoneta and Cridersville, causing traffic backups in the area.
According to the Wapakoneta Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, troopers from the Piqua Post were dispatched around 4:27 p.m. after receiving multiple calls about a U Haul driver operating recklessly on northbound I 75 south of Sidney, including reports of high speeds and unsafe passing.
Troopers positioned near Anna and notified the Wapakoneta Post. Near mile marker 109 in Auglaize County, Wapakoneta Post troopers attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver fled and eventually exited onto U.S. Route 33.
The patrol says the U Haul made several turns, reentered I 75 traveling southbound, then crossed over and returned to the northbound lanes. Near mile marker 115 between Wapakoneta and Cridersville, the U Haul crashed into a commercial truck.
No injuries were reported. The patrol says one person was taken into custody.
