Parkway Local Schools Superintendent Laura Young says the district’s board of education voted Monday night to not renew Treasurer Debbie Pierce’s contract when it expires later this year, and to place Pierce on paid administrative leave.

Young said the vote took place at the board meeting Monday, January 19, 2026. According to Young, Pierce’s contract will not be renewed upon its expiration on July 31, 2026, and Pierce will be placed on paid administrative leave effective February 1, 2026.

To maintain continuity of the district’s financial operations, Young said the board appointed Kurt Wendell as interim treasurer and Sherry Schaefer as interim assistant treasurer. Both appointments take effect February 1, 2026.

Young said the board’s decision reflects its responsibility to act in the best interest of the district and added the board appreciates Pierce’s service and thanked her for her contributions.
