Indiana State Police: 4 dead in Jay County head on crash involving semi and van

Jay County, Ind. — Indiana State Police say four people are now confirmed dead after a head on crash involving a semi and a van in Jay County.

ISP says troopers were called around 4 p.m. Tuesday to State Road 67 and County Road 550 East to assist the Jay County Sheriff’s Department. Investigators say a semi driven by 30 year old Bekzhan Beishekeev was traveling east on State Road 67 when it failed to stop for another semi that had slowed down.

Police say the semi then swerved into the westbound lane and struck a van head on.

ISP originally reported three deaths, with other victims suffering serious and life threatening injuries. In an update Wednesday, officials said a fourth person later died.

The Jay County Coroner identified the victims as four men from Bryant: 50 year old Henry Eicher, 25 year old Menno Eicher, 19 year old Paul Eicher, and 23 year old Simon Girod.

The Indiana State Police Critical Incident Reconstruction Team is working with the Commercial Vehicle Division, the Jay County Sheriff’s Department, and the Jay County Coroner as the investigation continues.
