Greenville man sentenced to 14 to 19 and a half years in Darke County shooting death

A Greenville man has been sentenced in the shooting death of a mother of three in Darke County.

Court records show 26 year old Zachery Gilbert was sentenced Monday in Darke County Common Pleas Court to a total of 14 to 19 and a half years in prison. The sentence includes 11 to 16 and a half years for involuntary manslaughter, plus 3 years for a firearm specification. Records also show Gilbert is expected to be under post release control for 2 to 5 years after his release.

Gilbert accepted a plea deal in the case in December, just before a trial was scheduled to begin.

The case stems from the September 2024 shooting death of Brianne Otley at a home on Martin Street in Greenville. Family members previously told News Center 7 that Gilbert was Otley’s ex boyfriend and had been staying at the home temporarily. Police said she was shot after an argument.

Otley was a single mother of three and a Northmont High School graduate, according to her obituary.
