Celina Man Charged After Allegedly Assaulting Deputy, Injuring Wife
CELINA — A Celina man is facing multiple charges after authorities say he assaulted a deputy and injured his wife during a domestic disturbance last week. According to a complaint filed in Mercer County Common Pleas Court, deputies with the Mercer County Sheriff's Office were dispatched around 8:15 p.m. February 20 to a home along State Route 118 for a reported domestic situation. Authorities say when a deputy entered the residence and began speaking with 52-year-old Franklin J. Weis, he allegedly became belligerent and struck the deputy’s arm without provocation. When the deputy attempted to take him into custody, Weis allegedly resisted by pulling away and throwing himself onto a couch before being placed in handcuffs. Deputies also report he kicked a screen door while being escorted outside. Investigators say the disturbance began earlier in the evening while Weis’ wife was working from home. According to the affidavit, Weis had been drinking and began antagonizing her by poking her and her computer monitor. She told deputies he later threw his phone and a block of cheese at her, then damaged items inside the home, including decorations and furniture. Authorities allege Weis then placed his arm around his wife’s neck in a choke hold. She told deputies she did not lose the ability to breathe but later left the home. The following day, she sought treatment at Coldwater Health, where she was diagnosed with a nondisplaced fracture to her middle finger. Investigators say the injury occurred when Weis attempted to force open a bedroom door she was holding shut. Weis is charged with felony assault on a peace officer, misdemeanor domestic violence and resisting arrest. Court records show bond was set at $75,000, subject to 10 percent, with conditions. An attorney has been appointed to represent him.
