St. Marys Downtown Traffic Lights Now Running Full Cycle Overnight

St. Marys Downtown Traffic Lights Now Running Full Cycle Overnight

Drivers in St. Marys who travel through downtown during late night and early morning hours may have noticed a recent change at several intersections.

Traffic lights that previously operated on flashing signals overnight are now running on a normal traffic light cycle.

City officials say the change was made after careful discussion and evaluation in the interest of both public safety and officer safety. Over the past several years, those intersections have been the site of numerous crashes and close calls involving drivers who failed to stop at flashing red lights. Officials also say patrol vehicles have been struck in those areas.

While the change may create a minor inconvenience for those who regularly travel through downtown during the overnight and early morning hours, city officials say the safety of the community and officers remains the top priority.

Officials thanked the public for its patience and cooperation as the city continues working to keep the community safe.
