Sheriff Timmerman Invites Mercer County Residents to Join Buckeye State Sheriffs’ Association

Mercer County Sheriff Doug Timmerman is inviting county residents to become associate members of the Buckeye State Sheriffs’ Association as part of this year’s membership drive.

In a release issued March 18, Timmerman said the effort is aimed at strengthening the partnership between citizens and law enforcement while helping provide support for sheriffs across Ohio.

Membership appeals are expected to go out in the mail in late March. The voluntary program allows individuals to join with a contribution starting at $25.

Timmerman said the funding helps support training for sheriffs and deputy sheriffs throughout Ohio, while also backing legislative efforts on criminal justice issues at the state level.

He said the Buckeye State Sheriffs’ Association divides the state into quarters each year, with about 22 to 23 counties taking part in the annual prospecting effort to invite residents to become associate members.

Timmerman said the minimum membership also includes a small accidental death life insurance policy through the association, along with a membership card.

He added that the program helps give sheriffs a voice in Columbus when it comes to proposed legislation affecting law enforcement.

“As government funding gets tighter, support from our community means more to us than ever,” Timmerman said. “Every membership truly makes a difference.”

Timmerman also noted that he currently serves on the association’s legislative committee, giving him direct input on laws being presented in the Ohio House and Senate.

Residents who do not receive a membership appeal but want more information can contact the Buckeye State Sheriffs’ Association at 1103 Schrock Road, Suite 401, Columbus, Ohio, 43229, call 614-431-5500, or visit the organization’s website. Residents can also contact the Mercer County Sheriff’s Office for more information.
