With more rain in the forecast, Mercer County Emergency Management is reminding local drivers to take flooded roads seriously and never ignore closure signs.
EMA Director Chad Willrath says widespread flash flooding is not usually a major issue in this area, but certain roads and low spots can still take on water and become dangerous. He says local highway crews are typically quick to put up road closed signs when conditions warrant it.
Willrath says the biggest mistake drivers can make is going around those barricades and trying to drive through the water anyway. He says there have been cases in the past where drivers ignored the signs, ended up with flooded vehicles, and had to be rescued by emergency crews.
He says even if a detour takes a little longer, it is always better to play it safe.
Mercer County EMA is urging residents to stay alert during wet weather and remember that if a road is closed, it is closed for a reason.
