MERCER COUNTY — Mercer County EMA Director Chad Wilrath says storm damage was reported in the Chickasaw area following strong winds that moved through the county.
Wilrath said he received a call from Chickasaw’s fire chief reporting multiple utility poles down on Brockman Road. He said there were about seven poles reported down in that area.
He also said agricultural building damage was reported on Brockman Road, with two farm properties appearing to have sustained damage.
Wilrath said EMA planned to go out in daylight to assess the damage and take pictures. He said those images would be forwarded to the National Weather Service for review.
Based on what was reported, Wilrath said the damage appears to have been caused by winds around 70 miles per hour. He said the early indication is that the damage was likely caused by straight line winds rather than tornadic activity.
In addition to the damage near Chickasaw, Wilrath said there were also reports of water in a local high school building, along with some downed trees and additional poles in other parts of the county.
Wilrath said no major damage had been confirmed at the time of his update, but county officials planned to continue surveying affected areas in daylight.
