Roof Drain Failure Causes Water Damage in About 10 Classrooms at Celina High School

CELINA — Celina City Schools Superintendent Brooke Gessler says a roof drain failure during a heavy rain led to water damage in about 10 classrooms at Celina High School.

Gessler said the district received a large amount of rain in a short period of time, and the failed roof drain caused water to enter parts of the building.

She said about 10 classrooms sustained heavier damage, with the third floor taking the brunt of it. Gessler said there were also issues with standing water on the second and first floors.

Gessler praised the response from staff members who came in to help deal with the situation.

According to Gessler, the team worked to clean up standing water in classrooms and other parts of the building as much as possible overnight.

She said the day without students allowed teachers time to get classrooms back in order while the district’s technology director evaluated any possible damage to classroom technology and checked other areas of the building where water may have reached.

Gessler said the focus is now on putting things back together and preparing for students to return.
