TWO CRASHES ON U.S. 127 IN DARKE COUNTY LEAVE THREE INJURED

DARKE COUNTY — Two separate crashes on U.S. Route 127 in Darke County Saturday morning resulted in injuries and emergency responses, including one crash where a vehicle struck a home.

According to the Darke County Sheriff’s Office, the first crash happened around 10:25 A.M. SATURDAY at the intersection of U.S. Route 127 and State Route 503.

Deputies, along with New Madison Fire, Tri-Village Rescue, and Arcanum Rescue, responded to the scene after a report of a crash involving injuries and a vehicle striking a house.

A preliminary investigation found that a silver Jeep Grand Cherokee driven by 48-year-old Melissa Hymes of New Madison was traveling south on U.S. 127 when it was struck broadside by a white GMC Yukon driven by 29-year-old Hannah Paulus of West Milton.

Investigators say Paulus was traveling northwest on State Route 503 and failed to stop at the stop sign at the intersection.

Both vehicles left the roadway, and the GMC Yukon struck a nearby home. The sheriff’s office says the residents were not home at the time of the crash.

Hymes was transported to Reid Hospital, while Paulus was transported to Wayne HealthCare for treatment of their injuries.

A second crash occurred shortly after, at approximately 11:03 A.M., at the intersection of U.S. 127 and Sebring-Warner Road.

Darke County Deputies and Greenville Township Fire and Rescue responded to the scene.

The sheriff’s office says a red Chevy Sonic driven by 31-year-old Allison James of Greenville was traveling southbound on U.S. 127 when she lost control on the wet roadway.

The vehicle left the right side of the road and struck a road sign post before coming to rest in a ditch.

James was treated and released at the scene.

The Darke County Sheriff’s Office reminds motorists to use caution during wet road conditions and allow extra time for travel.
