Mother, Daughter Killed in Crash Involving Semi in Shelby County
SHELBY COUNTY, Ohio — A mother and daughter were killed Monday morning after their car pulled into the path of a semi about seven miles west of Sidney.
The crash occurred at 9:38 a.m. in Oran at the intersection of State Route 47 and Dawson Road, according to the Shelby County Sheriff's Office.
The preliminary investigation indicates that Susan Eilerman, 84, of Fort Loramie, was driving a 2020 Ford Fusion north on Dawson Road when she attempted to turn onto westbound State Route 47 from a stop sign.
Investigators said the vehicle failed to yield to a westbound semitrailer towing another semitrailer, resulting in the collision.
Eilerman and her passenger, Sharon Eilerman, 64, of Fort Loramie, were pronounced dead at the scene. The sheriff's office identified the women as mother and daughter.
The driver of the semitrailer, Mitchell Siegel, 32, of Versailles, was evaluated by medics at the scene for minor injuries.
The Fort Loramie and Sidney Fire Departments, Fort Loramie Rescue, the Ohio State Highway Patrol, and the Shelby County Coroner's Office assisted at the scene.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol is assisting the Shelby County Sheriff's Office with the investigation.
The intersection was closed for over five hours, and reopened just before 3 p.m.
