Minster School Board to Review Elementary Updates Tonight

Minster School Board to Review Elementary Updates Tonight

The Minster Local Schools Board of Education will hear several updates involving elementary students, enrollment and preparations for the upcoming school year during its meeting tonight.

According to the August K-6 board report, Minster Elementary will continue several student-recognition programs during the 2026-27 school year, including weekly YET cards, the quarterly Wildcat Spirit Stick and the “Humble and Kind” award. Students will also be recognized for accomplishments in art and music, while Minster Milestone certificates will continue to be used for classroom incentives.

The district is also preparing for a new state requirement involving math assessments. Beginning this school year, Ohio schools must administer an approved mathematics diagnostic assessment to all kindergarten through third-grade students by September 30. Minster already uses NWEA MAP Growth Math in grades 1 through 8, so the primary change will be adding the assessment for kindergarten students.

Elementary enrollment has also shifted ahead of the new school year. As of August 4, Minster had eight new K-6 students moving into the district and five students leaving. The new students include one kindergartner, two first-graders, one second-grader, three third-graders and one fifth-grader.

Back-to-School Night for kindergarten through 12th grade is scheduled for August 18 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. The first day of school is August 20.
