Reminder: Ohioans Can Use SNAP Benefits at Farmers’ Markets Statewide
COLUMBUS, OHIO – The Ohio Department of Job and Family Services (ODJFS) is reminding Ohioans receiving Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits that they can use their Ohio Direction Card at farmers’ markets across the state to purchase fresh, locally grown food.
“Access to nutritional food is a critical component of SNAP,” said ODJFS Director Matt Damschroder. “Farmers’ markets are a great way to celebrate fresh foods, while supporting local agriculture.”
With farmers’ market season in full swing, ODJFS encourages eligible Ohioans to take advantage of this benefit. Participating markets display signs indicating they accept SNAP, EBT, or the Ohio Direction Card. In most cases, cardholders use their Ohio Direction Card to purchase tokens at the market, which can then be used to buy eligible food items.
