Country music legend Dolly Parton died Tuesday, August 25 at the age of 80.

Parton’s career spanned more than six decades and made the Tennessee native one of the most recognizable performers and songwriters in American music.

Her best known songs include “Jolene,” “9 to 5” and “I Will Always Love You.”

Parton also became a successful actress and businesswoman, helping create Dollywood and later founding the Imagination Library.

The literacy program has distributed free books to millions of children.

Parton sold more than 100 million records during her career and was inducted into both the Country Music Hall of Fame and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Ohio Governor Mike DeWine has ordered U.S. and Ohio flags at public buildings and grounds across the state lowered to half staff in Parton’s honor.

The order remains in effect through sunset September 1.
