Museum of the Soldier Plans Chicken Supper Fundraiser During Indiana Military Vehicle Show

The Museum of the Soldier in Portland, Indiana is preparing for its annual Chicken Supper Fundraiser in conjunction with the Indiana Military Vehicle Show at the Jay County Fairgrounds.

Museum representative Jim Waechter says the military vehicle show has been held in Portland for about 10 years after previously making stops in Indianapolis and Crawfordsville.

This year’s two-day show will be held September 18 and 19 and will feature historic military vehicles ranging from the pre-World War II era through more modern equipment.

Waechter says last year’s event drew entries from about five states, with vehicles including World War II-era half-tracks and other military equipment.

A Huey helicopter will also be available for rides during the event. Rides are $100 for adults and $50 for children age 12 and younger.

The show will also feature military reenactors and opportunities for veterans and visitors to share stories and learn more about military history. Admission to the military vehicle show is free.

The Museum of the Soldier’s annual Chicken Supper Fundraiser will be held Friday, September 18 from 4:30 to 7 p.m. at the Jay County Fairgrounds.

Romer’s Catering of St. Henry, Ohio will provide the meal, which includes a half barbecue chicken, barbecue beans, applesauce, a dinner roll and a drink.

Tickets are $12 and must be ordered in advance by September 10.

Proceeds from the supper will support the Museum of the Soldier in Portland.

The Indiana Military Vehicle Show will continue through September 19 at the Jay County Fairgrounds, with events open to the public and free admission.
