Ohio Unemployment Claims Decline for Second Consecutive Week

Ohio unemployment claims declined during the week ending August 29, according to new figures released by the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services.

Ohioans filed 3,859 initial unemployment claims from August 23 through August 29. That was 544 fewer than the previous week.

Approximately 829 initial claims were flagged for additional identity verification as the state works to identify potentially fraudulent filings.

Ohioans also filed 36,938 continued unemployment claims, a decline of 1,166 from the previous week.

A total of 40,797 initial and continued claims were filed during the seven day period.

Ohio’s unemployment rate was 3.4 percent in July, compared with the national rate of 4.1 percent. The state and national labor force participation rates were both 61.4 percent.
