Silent Watch Veteran Suicide Awareness Event Set for September 17 in Celina

A veteran suicide awareness event is scheduled for later this month at the Celina Courthouse Square.

The Silent Watch will be held Thursday, September 17, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and is being organized as a day of remembrance, awareness and support for veterans and their families.

During the event, volunteers will take 15 minute shifts standing in silent vigil. Each shift is intended to honor a veteran lost to suicide while helping raise awareness for veterans who may still be struggling.

Organizers say chairs will be available for anyone who is unable to stand during their shift.

The event will also focus on supporting those who continue to serve and encouraging veterans and their loved ones to seek help when needed.

Event materials note that veteran suicide continues to affect communities across the country and emphasize the message, “You Are Not Alone.”
