Celina Man Sentenced in Mercer County Weapons Case

A 20-year-old Celina man has been sentenced to nine months in prison in a Mercer County weapons case.

Tristan Thompson was recently sentenced in Mercer County Common Pleas Court after pleading guilty to having weapons while under disability, a third-degree felony. His sentence will be served through the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction.

The nine-month sentence will run consecutively to Thompson’s prison term in a separate Van Wert County case.

Thompson was sentenced earlier this month in Van Wert County Common Pleas Court to 36 months in prison for abduction and 36 months for having weapons while under disability. He also received 180 days in jail for misdemeanor assault. Those three sentences are being served concurrently, resulting in a total Van Wert County prison term of three years.

Court records state the Van Wert County offenses occurred March 2. The abduction charge alleged Thompson restrained another person by force or threat under circumstances that created a risk of physical harm or placed the person in fear. The assault charge alleged he caused or attempted to cause physical harm to the same person.

The Mercer County case stems from an incident on February 13. Court documents state Thompson was prohibited from possessing a firearm because of previous juvenile adjudications for burglary and robbery.

A second Mercer County charge of improperly furnishing a firearm to a minor was dismissed as part of the negotiated plea agreement.
