Sidney Pedestrian Dies Following Hit-and-Run; Suspect in Custody

SIDNEY — A pedestrian has died following a hit-and-run crash Sunday night in Sidney, and a suspect is in custody.

Sidney Police and medics responded to the 500 block of North Vandemark Road shortly after 8:30 p.m. The call was initially reported as a possible shooting involving a person lying near the roadway.

First responders found an adult male lying in the grass with critical injuries. He was transported to Wilson Health, where he was pronounced dead.

Investigators determined the victim had not been shot but had been struck by a vehicle that left the scene. The Ohio State Highway Patrol’s crash reconstruction unit assisted Sidney Police with the investigation.

Police identified 29-year-old Alec Fox of Sidney as the alleged driver. Fox was booked into the Shelby County Jail on a felony charge of failing to stop after an accident. Sidney Police said the vehicle and its driver were located following the fatal crash.

The victim’s identity is being withheld until relatives are notified.

Fox remains in custody while the investigation continues. Police said additional charges are pending.
