St. Henry school board reviews state report card and financial outlook

The St. Henry Consolidated Local Schools Board of Education reviewed the district’s state report card, finances and several personnel matters during its October meeting.

Superintendent Adam Puthoff said St. Henry received an overall rating of four-and-a-half stars on its state report card. He credited students and staff for their efforts and said student achievement remains a strength for the district, while the progress measure continues to present opportunities for growth.

Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer Jen Bruns presented updated information on final 2025 tax collections and the effect of recent property-tax legislation. Board members discussed how the district may need to address a resulting revenue shortfall, with the issue expected to return at future meetings.

The board accepted a $3,000 grant from the Cooper Farms Foundation. Puthoff thanked the organization for its continued support of St. Henry schools.

Board members also approved several student activities, budgets and fundraisers. Those included yearbook advertising sales, club membership dues, Granville Township roadside cleanup, prom ticket sales for the Class of 2028 and a middle school student council Halloween event.

The board approved several “then and now” purchases, including $4,956.95 for Renaissance Learning, $20,000 for athletic trainer services and $74,712.50 for energy services.

A $5,000 transfer from the athletic fund to the athletic track resurfacing fund was also approved.

The board authorized an overnight trip for FFA members attending the National FFA Convention from October 21 through October 23 and approved updated district policies.

In personnel action, the board hired Brian Murrell on a one-year classified contract as a daytime custodian and approved Leah Kessers as a substitute bus driver. The board also accepted the resignation of Sheila Heinel.

A resolution was approved allowing Lauren Turman to serve as elementary principal under an alternative principal license for the 2026-27 school year.

The district will also participate in the Southwest Ohio Educational Purchasing Council van program. The board approved the purchase of a 10-passenger van from American Bus and Accessories for an estimated $78,208.

The next St. Henry Board of Education meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, November 11, at 6 p.m. in the high school media center.
