DeWine allows red-dyed diesel on Ohio highways through end of year

Red-dyed diesel fuel may now be used in vehicles traveling on Ohio’s public highways under an executive order signed by Governor Mike DeWine.

The order took effect immediately and will remain in place through the end of the year.

Red-dyed diesel is typically sold without highway taxes for use in off-road vehicles and equipment, including machinery used in farming and construction. The dye normally allows law enforcement officers to identify fuel on which highway taxes have not been paid.

The state order aligns Ohio with a federal executive order concerning dyed diesel that President Donald Trump signed October 6th.

A temporary gasoline and diesel tax holiday is also currently in effect.
